His death rocked the tiny community surrounding Clevelands House, but in settler fashion, Fanny and her sons continued on, operating the hotel that Charles had loved dearly. It was around the mid-1940s when Bob Cornell first came to the hotel as a guest with his family. He loved the resort so much that when he was 14, he applied to work at the resort, fibbing on his application that he was “almost 16.” Working as a bellhop, Bob recalls getting paid only in tips and having to work seven days a week.
